World Ski Awards 2016: Kitzbühel among the major winners

Kitzbühel has once again hosted the prestigious World Ski Awards. Around 150 guests from numerous nations got together at a grand gala event in the 5-star A-ROSA Kitzbühel hotel on 19 November to celebrate the awarding of the coveted trophies. Kitzbühel was confirmed as the best Austrian ski resort and Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel was able to once again secure the “World's Best Ski Resort Company” title. New award winners included the Hotel Rasmushof Kitzbühel, which was named "Austria's Best Ski Boutique Hotel”. Garmisch-Partenkirchen was the best ski resort in Germany and Laax was honoured as the best ski resort in Switzerland.

The World Ski Awards have seen awards presented to outstanding international and regional ski resorts and winter sports companies since 2013. And who is better qualified than Kitzbühel to host these awards, with the “Gamsstadt” continuously setting standards for the future of winter sports. Big names from the world of international ski tourism, as well as market leaders from America, Europe, Asia, South America, Australia and New Zealand, all got together for the 2016 ceremony in the Alps’ most legendary town for sports. The much sought after awards, covering a range of categories, were presented as part of a glamorous gala evening in the luxury 5-star A-ROSA Kitzbühel hotel.

Defending champion crowned again – Kitzbühel cleans up

The host town itself emerged once again as one of the evening's impressive winners this year. The “Gamsstadt”, which has already received several awards in previous years, was delighted to be once again voted "Austria's Best Ski Resort". Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel also had plenty of cause to celebrate: it won in the prestigious “World's Best Ski Resort Company" category for the third time, following on from the great success it enjoyed last year. Rasmushof won an award for the first time this year: the hotel, which has its own 9-hole golf course and is synonymous with the mythical “Streif” downhill run given its location at the foot of the Hahnenkamm, won in the “Austria’s Best Ski Boutique Hotel” category.

Among Austria’s neighbours, Garmisch-Partenkirchen emerged victorious as Germany’s Best Ski Resort. Laax meanwhile can show off its trophy for Switzerland’s Best Ski Resort this coming winter season. Val Thorens was awarded “World’s Best Ski Resort”.

In addition to high-ranking winter sports executives, the jury also consisted of tour operators, agencies, press representatives and winter sports tourists. And there was also the option to vote online in the different categories via the World Ski Awards’ Internet platform.
