“Classics in the Alps”: Elīna Garanča invites you to an open-air concert in Kitzbühel

Exceptional Latvian vocalist, Elīna Garanča, presents her special guests and musical programme for an open-air concert in Kitzbühel’s Pfarrau Park on 4 July 2015.
This summer, Latvian singing sensation, Elīna Garanča, will be coming to Kitzbühel for her third time to present the open-air concert, “Classics in the Alps” (“Klassik in den Alpen”). With director and artistic director, Karel March Chichon, and her two American guests, soprano Angel Joy Blue and baritone Donnie Ray Albert, she will perform highlights from traditional and more recent classical music against the magnificent backdrop of the Kitzbühel Alps.

Special guests
“Elīna Garanča and Friends” is a promise that triggers great anticipation among music lovers. For Garanča invites only the best of the best to sing with her at the most beautiful spots. This summer, it is the turn of two exceptional American performers to join her on the classic open-air stage in Kitzbühel:

Female reinforcement comes in the form of soprano, Angel Joy Blue, protégé of none other than Placido Domingo, with whom she has also been featured on stage several times. After her performance as Mimi in La Bohème at the English National Opera, she received enormous praise from the international trade press and since then has been regarded as a new star in the operatic sky. Once crowned “Miss California”, before her musical career kicked off, Angel Joy Blue was born in California in the USA but now chooses London as her home.

Her male guest, baritone Donnie Ray Albert, from Louisiana, has a particularly charismatic stage presence. Among the venues he has performed at are the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden in London, La Scala in Milan, the Hamburg State Opera, San Francisco Opera as well as Teatro Comunale di Firenze (Municipal Theatre in Florence).

A hand-picked programme with three Garanča premieres
As in previous years, the programme the trio will be presenting, accompanied by the Vienna Volksoper Symphony Orchestra, has been compiled with great affection by artistic director, Karel Mark Chichon.
Particularly noteworthy: the audience can look forward to three Elīna Garanča premieres. For the first time she will sing the famous arias, “O Don fatale” from Verdi’s “Don Carlo”, and “Samson recherchant ma présence” from "Samson and Delilah" by Charles Camille Saint-Saëns, then together with Donnie Ray Albert, the duet “Turiddu mi tolse L'onore” from “Santuzza & Alfio” by Pietro Mascagni. Barbara Rett will host the evening in her usual charming manner.
